Description
Overview
The Avaro Eco Ki-O-Rahi Set packs the three things you need to lay out and play Kī-o-Rahi: a Te Tupu central target, Ngā Pou field posts to mark the concentric zones, and a Ki-O-Rahi ball. The 'Eco' in the name refers to the Te Tupu, which is a recycled drum rather than a new one.
Because the drum is reused, it is thoroughly cleaned where it is prepared and washed again by Sports Distributors before it leaves Mount Maunganui. It is one of the ki-o-rahi kitsets we put together for schools, kura and clubs introducing the game.
Key benefits
- Everything to mark a field and play: target, posts and ball in one kit.
- Recycled drum Te Tupu is cleaned twice before it reaches you.
- Ngā Pou posts let you mark the Te Ao, Te Roto and Te Motu zones.
- Avaro is designed in NZ for NZ school and club play.
- Plastic components suit repeated set-up and pack-down on school fields.
Who it's for
Ideal for primary, intermediate and secondary PE programmes, kura kaupapa Māori and community groups that want to run Kī-o-Rahi without sourcing a drum and posts separately. It gives a class enough to set out the circular field and play a full game between the Kioma and Taniwha teams.
If you already have a target and posts and only need the ball, the Ki-O-Rahi Ball is sold on its own. Cones from the Avaro range help mark the circles on the ground.
Care, safety and set-up
This set is a bulky item shipped from imported stock, so delivery is freight-quoted for your address rather than charged at a flat rate. Add it to a quote and request a quote if you are ordering for several kura or a cluster of schools, and ask our team about funding options.
Frequently asked questions
How is a Kī-o-Rahi field laid out?
It is circular, marked with three visible concentric circles each at least 100 mm wide. The outer zone, Te Ao, is 12 metres wide; the middle zone, Te Roto, is 6 metres wide; the central zone, Te Motu, holds the Tupu and Pawero.
How does scoring work?
The Kioma team scores tries (tupu manawa) while the Taniwha team scores hits (tupu wairua) on the central Te Tupu. The team with the most points, or the first to score ten times in a row, wins.
Is the drum new?
No. It is a recycled drum, thoroughly cleaned at the point of manufacture and again by Sports Distributors before dispatch.
Can our school get help paying for it?
Yes. Ask about funding packages for schools and clubs, or add the set to a quote for a fit-out.
