The Silver Fern Ki-O-Rahi Set supplies the core equipment for Kī-o-Rahi: the tupu (central drum target), seven pou (field posts) and a ball. Handles make the set easier to carry on and off the field between sessions. It is made to order, and as a large item it is freight-quoted, so plan it into the season rather than the week.

Description

Overview

The Ki-O-Rahi Set from Silver Fern is the equipment for Kī-o-Rahi, the Māori ball game played on a circular field of three concentric zones. It includes one te tupu (the drum that serves as the central target), seven ngā pou (field posts) and a ball, with handles for carrying the pieces on and off the field.

The game in brief: two teams, Kioma and Taniwha, play across the three circles. Kioma scores tries (tupu manawa) while Taniwha scores hits (tupu wairua) on the tupu in the centre, and the team with the most points, or the first to score ten times in a row, wins. This is the entry-level set in the range; a second Ki-O-Rahi Set is listed alongside it.

Key benefits

  • Core Kī-o-Rahi kit in one order: tupu drum target, seven pou and a ball.
  • Easier to move: handles for carrying the set on and off the field.
  • Silver Fern is a house-stocked range, backed by the store's 12-month guarantee.
  • Made to order for your school or club, with freight quoted for the large set.

Who it's for

This set suits schools, kura and clubs introducing Kī-o-Rahi as a regular PE or lunchtime game and wanting the proper pieces, the tupu and pou, in place of improvised targets. Because it is made to order, allow for manufacturing time when planning the season.

Spare or extra balls are sold separately as the Ki-O-Rahi Ball. The set lists the tupu, pou and ball only; cones for marking the circles, such as Numbered Cones 1-10, are sold separately. For a full sports fit-out, request a quote and the team will price the set with freight.

Care, safety and set-up

Made to order: the set is manufactured after you order, and as a large item its freight is quoted for your address rather than charged as a parcel. Use the handles to carry the pieces on and off the field and store them together between games.
