Description
Overview
The Vinex Distance Measuring Wheel is a single-operator tool for laying out long distances: cross-country courses, athletics day fields, walking paths and roads. Roll it along the ground and the mechanical counter tallies the distance, so there is no tape to drag, kink or reel back in.
It reads to the nearest metre, which suits laying out a course. For jump and throw results you still need a tape from the field marking & distance measurement range.
Key benefits
- Measures long courses alone, with no second person holding a tape.
- Reads up to 10 km on a mechanical five-digit counter.
- Starts each measurement from zero with the quick reset lever.
- Travels between venues in the included carry bag.
- Needs no batteries thanks to the mechanical counter.
Who it's for
Best for PE teachers and sports coordinators setting out cross-country and athletics day courses, club volunteers marking training loops, and groundskeepers checking field lengths. Because it counts in whole metres, it is a layout tool rather than a results tool.
If you mainly measure jumps and throws, an open reel tape is the better buy: the Measuring Tape Open Reel 30m suits most school field events, and the Measuring Tape Open Reel 100m covers longer throws.
Care, safety and set-up
Wipe grit off the wheel after use on wet grass or gravel and store it in the carry bag. Zero the counter with the reset lever before each measurement rather than subtracting readings.
Frequently asked questions
How accurate is the reading?
The counter records to the nearest metre (least count 1 m). That suits course layout; use a tape for competition results.
Is a carry bag included?
Yes, the wheel ships with its own carry bag.
Can it be used indoors?
Yes. The supplier lists it for internal as well as external spaces, so gym floors and halls are fine.
