Description
Overview
The GL Freestanding Fixed Height is a movable basketball backstop that stands on its own counterweights rather than in a ground socket, so it can be wheeled onto a multi-purpose synthetic outdoor court when basketball is on and off again for other sports. It carries a primary size backboard of 1200 × 800 mm with a regulation size heavy duty hoop, and the ring sits at a fixed height.
All steel work is hot dip galvanised for outdoor use, and the counterweights are purpose-made concrete blocks bolted in place. It sits within our portable basketball systems range; for a socketed permanent tower, compare the GL Outdoor Senior Basketball Tower – 2.4m.
Key benefits
- Frees up a shared court because the unit wheels on and off as needed.
- Stays put during play with concrete counterweight blocks bolted to the frame.
- Stands up to outdoor courts thanks to hot dip galvanised steel throughout.
- Keeps players clear of the frame with a 1200 mm backboard overhang.
- Primary size 1200 × 800 mm backboard suits younger shooters without a full-size board.
Who it's for
Choose this backstop for a primary school or community court that is shared with other sports and cannot have posts fixed in the ground. The primary size backboard is aimed at younger players rather than senior or club competition.
It is not a full-size senior board. For senior play look at the GL Outdoor Senior Basketball Tower – 2.4m or the 1.2m overhang version, both socketed towers for a permanent installation.
Sizing guide
Our basketball hoop height guide puts rings at 2.4 m for ages 1–4 years and 3.05 m (regulation) for 5 years and up. This unit is built to a fixed height, and the listing does not state which ring height it is set to, so confirm with our team before ordering for a specific age group.
Care, safety and set-up
This backstop is made to order, so it is manufactured after you order and shipped on a freight quote rather than standard delivery. Some assembly is required on site, and the counterweight blocks must be bolted in place before anyone plays on it.
A trolley for moving the unit is not included; the supplier recommends one trolley per site. Our reps and customer-service team can help you plan the fit-out.
Frequently asked questions
Is it fixed in the ground?
No. It is freestanding and counterweighted, relying on concrete blocks bolted to the frame rather than a ground socket. That is what lets it be moved on and off a shared court.
Does it come assembled?
Some assembly is required. The trolley used to move the unit is not included, and one trolley per site is recommended.
How do I get a price for freight and a school fit-out?
Add the backstop to a quote and request a quote; our team will confirm freight to your site. Funding packages are available for schools and clubs, and quantity pricing applies on many lines.
